The Cougars (14-1, 2-1 Big 12) picked up a road win in Conference at Cincinnati on Wednesday night, outlasting the Bearcats in four tight sets. Suli Davis led BYU with a career-high 27 kills, which is the second-most by a Cougar freshman in the rally-scoring era.

Joining Davis in double figures were Claire Little Chambers (18 kills), Sophia Callahan (12 kills) and Brielle Kemavor (11 kills, hitting .733), marking the first time this season that four BYU hitters finished with double-digit kills.

Alex Bower recorded her third double-double of the season with 54 assists and a career-high 16 digs. Little Chambers posted her first double-double of the year, adding 10 digs of her own.

As a team, the Cougars rank No. 5 nationally in kills per set (14.54), No. 6 in assists per set (13.52), No. 16 in hitting percentage (.291), No. 18 in total assists (703), No. 19 in total kills (756). BYU leads the Big 12 in both kills per set and assists per set, and is third in both total assists and total kills.

Individually, Bower is No. 2 in the country in total assists (583) and No. 5 in assists per set (11.21), while Kemavor is No. 20 in hitting percentage (.427). Davis and Little Chambers also jumped into the top 25, coming in at No. 21 (218) and No. 24 (217) in total kills, respectively.

After visiting Cincinnati for the first time in series history, the Cougars head to Morgantown for the third time in their history with the Mountaineers.

West Virginia (12-2, 0-2 Big 12)

  • The Mountaineers also went 12-0 in non-conference play before dropping their Big 12 opener at Cincinnati, 3-1.
  • WVU also hosted Kansas State on Wednesday night, dropping a five-set heartbreaker to the Wildcats with a 20-18 fifth set.
  • Jen Greeny is in her second season in Morgantown. She is 20-23 (.465) at WVU and 367-222 (.623) in her 19 seasons as a head coach.
  • BYU leads the all-time series, 4-0, and is 2-0 against the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The Cougars have won all 12 sets against WVU in series history.

Returning home, BYU has a single-game week next week, hosting Houston in a Saturday afternoon match on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. MDT on ESPN+.
