IRVING, Texas — BYU sophomore guard Delaney Gibb was unanimously named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the Conference announced on Thursday morning. The Cougars were picked 10th in the preseason coaches poll.

BYU's 10th-place selection in the preseason coaches poll is the highest mark since entering the league. The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in 2022-23, their first season as a Big 12 Conference member, and 12th last season. Last season, BYU finished 12th in the league with a 4-14 record.

During the 2024-25 season, Gibb received Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors 10 times en route to being unanimously named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year by conference coaches. The Raymond, Alberta native looks to lead the Cougars to their first winning season since 2022 under first-year head coach Lee Cummard.

“This is a really cool recognition for Delaney because the coaches in the Big 12 know the game of basketball and what qualities impact winning," said head coach Lee Cummard. "This recognition shows the respect the coaches in our league have for Delaney and how impactful she is for our team, as it pertains to winning.”

The rising sophomore finished her freshman campaign as the eighth-leading scorer in the Big 12 and the leading scorer among freshmen at 17.4 points per game. She also finished fourth in the conference for 3-point percentage at 39.5 percent, 11th in assists with 4.13 per game and 12th overall in field goal percentage at 45.3 percent.

Gibb single-handedly rewrote the BYU freshman record book as she finished in the top 15 in 29 statistical categories, setting 19 top 10 marks and 15 top 5 records.

The then freshman set the all-time mark for points per game at 17.4 and finished No. 2 in total points (522), field goal attempts (402), 3-point field goal attempts (195), 3-point field goals made per game (2.57), assists (124) and assists per game (4.13).

She finished third for field goals (182), 3-point field goals made (77), free throws made (81) and minutes per game (33:47). Gibb set the fourth-highest marks for 3-point field goal percentage (min. 35 made; .395), defensive rebounds per game (4.20), minutes (1,013:32) started the fifth-most games in program history by a freshman (30).

Gibb had a busy summer preparing for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign by suiting up for Team Canada in multiple tournaments around the world.

The 5-foot-10 guard participated in the AmeriCup training camp from June 8 to 16 before making her debut with the Canadian Senior National Team at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. In Chile, the rising sophomore averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists. She also recorded the game-winning assist as time expired against Argentina to earn the bronze medal for Canada. Gibb also suited up for Team Toronto at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Edmonton Stop.

Gibb now turns her attention to the 2025-26 season, in which she aims to lead a Cougar team featuring six newcomers, two players returning from injury, and a new coaching staff to new heights. BYU begins its season with an exhibition matchup against Western Colorado on Oct. 28, the first chance for fans to see Cummard's new-look Cougar team, before taking on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the season opener on Nov. 3 at the Marriott Center.
