FORT WORTH, Texas – After advancing on penalty kicks and edging out top-seeded TCU Monday night, the BYU women’s soccer team will compete against the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament semifinal match Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars have competed in a semifinal match of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament all three years as members of the conference.

Last Time on the Field. The Cougars took on No. 5 TCU Monday night in the first round of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament. Courtesy of a brace by Ellie Walbruch, the Cougars and Horned Frogs battled 110 minutes to a 2-2 draw, forcing a penalty kick shootout. Four Cougs converted their PK’s, and TCU missed two of theirs, sending BYU to the next round of the tournament.
THE COUGARS. BYU moved to 9-6-4 on the season after the tie against top-ranked TCU Monday evening. Walbruch scored her second brace of the year, her 12th and 13th goals, against the Horned Frogs. Although outshot 23-9, huge defensive stops by Emma Neff and goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson helped the Cougars hang on. Peterson, the Utah transfer, earned her first career start for BYU in the matchup against TCU. She tallied a season-high seven saves and came up big during the penalty kick shootout for BYU.
THE BEARS. Baylor’s first round of the Big 12 Tournament also ended in dramatic fashion with a 7-6 penalty kick shootout against No. 15 Texas Tech, after ending the game in a 1-1 tie. Texas Tech outshot Baylor 16-14, but each team had eight shots on target. Both goalkeepers also tallied seven saves on the day.
COUGARS VS. BEARS. BYU and Baylor faced off earlier this season in Waco, Texas where the Bears defeated the Cougars 4-2. After going into halftime tied 1-1, Baylor scored three second-half goals to secure the victory. Mattyn Summers-Oviatt and Walbruch scored in that matchup.
