PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf head coach Bruce Brockbank announced the signings of Austin Shelley and Drake Harvey on Wednesday.

"We’ve always enjoyed this time of year where the kids actually sign the National Letter of Intent to play golf at BYU,” Brockbank said. “I watched both kids play the last few years and really like both Austin and Drake. Great kids, and I look forward to having them here at BYU. They both have developed skills to be successful in the classroom and on the course. They’re hard workers, and they have plenty of experience to step right in and make a tremendous impact on our team. Can’t wait for them to be here in September.”

Austin Shelley

Shelley will be joining the Cougars after he graduates from Skyline High School in May for the 2026-27 season. Shelley’s older brother, Tyson, is currently playing out his senior season, while his other brother, Jackson, will join him after Jackson returns from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Korea.

"The Shelleys raise kids with a passion for winning and ability to step up in pressure situations," said director of golf Todd Miller. "Austin has already proved he can compete and the next level. His summer schedule was filled with amateur events with seasoned players who he beat a majority of the time."

Shelley earned first team All-State honors three times during his high school career, and contributed to three team state championships, including back-to-back titles with Skyline High School. Shelley capped off his senior season by winning individual medalist honors at the 2025 Utah 5A State Championship.

Beyond high school, the Salt Lake City native has an amateur career that features a few notable victories. In 2025, Shelley captured titles at the 2nd UGA Utah Junior State Amateur Championship, the Utah PGA Junior Championship, and the Fox Hollow Amateur. Nationally, he is ranked as a top-50 recruit in the Class of 2026 and is Utah’s top-rated junior golfer according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.

Drake Harvey

Coming from Las Vegas, Nevada, Drake Harvey will graduate from Somerset Academy Sky Pointe High School in May before joining the 2026-27 roster. Harvey will be a third-generation BYU golfer, as his father and grandfather previously played for the Cougars.

"I am excited to have a player of Drake’s caliber join our team," Miller said. "He is one of the best wedge players I’ve recruited. In every tournament I watched him, he did something that surprised me in a great way."

The 2025 Rolex AJGA All American & the 22nd-ranked golfer in the nation is also the top-ranked golfer out of Nevada. Harvey has won three straight Nevada 4A state titles and was victorious at the 2024 Dye Junior Invitational. Harvey’s most recent win came at the 2025 AJGA Heather Farr Classic.

The Nevada native also secured the victory at the UGA Winterchamps at Copper Rock and Green Spring golf courses in March.
