IRVING, Texas — Fresh off a decisive 44-13 win over TCU, BYU football today received several Big 12 Conference weekly awards. Freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was selected as Offensive Player of the Week, while senior kicker Will Ferrin was named Special Teams Player of the Week and the BYU defensive line garnered Defensive Line of the Week honors.
Senior kicker WILL FERRIN scored 14 points in No. 12 ranked BYU's win over TCU. He gave the Cougars an early 3-0 lead with a 52-yard field goal, his third 50-plus yard field goal this season. Ferrin also made field goals of 35 yards in the second quarter and 29 yards in the third, his fifth career game with three or more field goals.
The 6-3, 175-pound kicker from Kaysville, Utah, currently leads the Big 12 in scoring with 93 points through 10 games. The preseason All-American has converted 18 of 22 field goal attempts, including three over 50-yards. He is also perfect on the year in point-after attempts, converting on 39 or 39 to extend his BYU record of consecutive PATs made streak to 110.
Ferrin was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week twice during the 2024 season and was later honored as the Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year. Prior to the 2025 season, Ferrin was named Phil Steele Preseason Second Team All-American. He was also named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Football Team and was honored as preseason All-Big 12 by Phil Steele, Athlon Sports and Pro Football Focus. Ferrin was named to the Lou Groza Preseason Watch List in 2025 after being a Lou Groza Award Semifinalist in 2024.
Freshman quarterback BEAR BACHMEIER picked up his first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award after leading BYU to a 44-13 win over TCU. He was also named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 for week 12 of the season. So far in 2025, Bachmeier has been honored as Big 12 Freshman of the Week five times.
Bachmeier, a 6-2, 230-pound true freshman from Murrieta, California, completed 23 of 33 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown in No. 12 ranked BYU’s 44-13 win over TCU. He also scored his 10th rushing TD of the year tying a BYU season record for rushing TDs by a QB, held by Steve Young, Taysom Hill and Zach Wilson.
Through 10 games, Bachmeier has completed 172 of 272 passes (63.2 percent) for 2,177 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is averaging 217.7 yards per game passing, with an efficiency rating of 143.3. In addition, Bachmeier is second on the team in rushing, with 115 carries for 479 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and 10 additional touchdowns.
With multiple touchdowns versus TCU, Bachmeier now has seven games with both a passing and rushing touchdown. It's the second highest total in BYU history only behind All-American QB Virgil Carter who accomplished the feat in eight games in 1966.
After holding the Horned Frogs to just 13 points and 298 yards of total offense, the BYU DEFENSIVE LINE was today honored as the Defensive Line of the Week by the Big 12. The Cougar defensive line collected three sacks, five tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries on a TCU offense line that had only surrendered a total of 12 sacks (1.3 per game) all season.
The swarming BYU defense held the Horned Frog offense to its lowest passing yards total (183) since October 2023, due in large part to the Cougars’ defensive line pressure. The BYU defense held TCU to its lowest point total of the year (13) and its second lowest total offensive yards (298) of the 2025 season.
No. 11 ranked BYU travels to Cincinnati this week to take on the Bearcats at 8 p.m. ET in a game being televised nationally on FOX. In addition to the game broadcast, FOX Big Noon Kickoff will be in Cincinnati to feature the Big 12 matchup between the Cougars and Bearcats.
