GREENSBORO, NC - BYU finished its first day at the Wolfpack Elite Invite after competing in six events.
The men's program saw three top-10 program finishes from Max Kleinman, Will Bonnett and Peter Etzold in the Greensboro Aquatic Center, one of the nation's premier aquatic centers.

Prelims
BYU kicked off the meet with the 100 butterfly, where Kleinman took seventh. With a time of 46.46, he moved into fourth in BYU’s all-time 100 butterfly times. Junior Jake Aina set a collegiate personal best in the 100 butterfly.
Junior Tanner Nelson put the Cougars on the board in the 400 individual medley with a second-place finish at 3:44.51, and secured a spot in the finals later in the day.
Bonnett improved his 100 breaststroke time to 53.09, retaining his spot with the fifth-fastest 100 breaststroke time in BYU history.
Finals
Finals started with the 200 medley relay, where the BYU A relay team took seventh place, competing against 25 other teams. Kleinman led as the backstroke leadoff, followed by Etzold on the breaststroke split, Tanner Edwards’ butterfly split and Joshua Reed as the freestyle anchor. They finished with a time of 1:25.25.
Individual event finals began with the 100 butterfly, where Kleinman bested his original prelim time, finishing at 49.29, good enough to move him into third all-time in the 100 butterfly at BYU. The result marks Kleinman’s fifth top-10 finish of the season.
Nelson finished in third in the 400 individual medley at 3:44.66, behind NC State and Auburn. Nelson was also a part of the 200 freestyle relay team, which took seventh in the final event of the day.
The Cougars’ sole first-place finish came from Etzold, who took first in the 100 breaststroke at 52.37, improving his time and strengthening his standing as the program’s No. 2 all-time performer in the event.
BYU finished the day’s events in fifth place with 117 points.
