IRVING, Texas — BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier has been named Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Cougars’ 26-14 win over Cincinnati on Saturday. It’s the sixth time during the 2025 season that Bachmeier has received the honor.
The 6-2, 230-pound true freshman quarterback from Murrieta, California, completed 15-of-25 passes for 127 yards and no interceptions versus the Bearcats. Bachmeier also had 13 carries for 54-yards and a touchdown.
His 11 rushing touchdowns in 2025, breaks the previous BYU single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback held by Steve Young, Taysom Hill and Zach Wilson. Bachmeier now has at least one rushing touchdown in nine of BYU’s 11 games and has recorded both a passing score and rushing score in six games this season.
Through 11 games, Bachmeier has completed 187 of 297 passes (63 percent) for 2,304 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is averaging 209.5 yards per game passing, with an efficiency rating of 139.9. In addition, Bachmeier is second on the team in rushing, with 128 carries for 525 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and an average of 47.7 yards per game.
On Nov. 17, the Davey O’Brien Foundation named Bachmeier one of 20 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award. He has been named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 list twice during the 2025 season.
BYU hosts the UCF Knights at 11 a.m. MT on ESPN2 Saturday in LaVell Edwards Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Matt Schumacker, Dustin Fox and Sherree Burruss on the call.
