IRVING, Texas – BYU sophomore Martí Llop was named the Big 12 Confrence Diver of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Wednesday.
The award comes following Llop’s performance at the USC Invitational in Los Angeles last weekend.
On the first day of the invitational, Llop competed in the 3-meter event, where he scored two personal bests in the prelims and finals. His preliminary score of 350.65 and 379.90-point performance in finals, stemming from an 18.00 degree of difficulty, earned him a third-place finish in the event.
Llop competed in the platform event on the second day of competition, his first platform event of the season. He again led the Cougars with an eighth-place finish off a score of 315.50 in prelims and 280.40 in finals. His degree of difficulty totaled 17.20 for the day’s event.
On the third and final day of competition, Llop earned a fourth-place finish in the 1-meter event, leading the Cougars once again. Off a 17.30 degree of difficulty, he totaled 277.55 in prelims and improved in finals, finishing with a score of 316.65.
Llop and the rest of the BYU swim and dive teams will return to the pool on Jan. 3 as they take on Hawaii in Honolulu at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
