DALLAS, Texas – BYU men’s tennis players Redd Owen, Caden Hasler, Brennon Chow and Tygen Goldammer traveled to the Lone Star State to conclude the fall season.
In a round-robin style tournament, all four participating Cougars finished with even records or better. Freshman Brennon Chow stood out for BYU, going 3-1 in singles play and winning two of his three doubles matches with Redd Owen, including a tight 7-6 (8-6) victory over Rice and a 6-4 win against hometown SMU.
Goldammer and Hasler both finished the tournament at 4-4 across singles and doubles. Hasler closed the event on a high note with a comeback win against Baylor, recovering after dropping the first set 4-6 to take the next two sets 6-4, 10-6.
Assistant coach Jonathan Sanchez said this was a great learning opportunity for the team to face out-of-conference opponents before the winter season begins.
"I felt like it was a great tournament overall and a really good finish to our fall semester from the guys who participated," Sanchez said. "It’s always fun to get a chance to play some out-of-conference/region teams that are top in the country, and our guys really stepped up and played some high-level tennis. Definitely a good gauge to see where we are at before season starts in January."
Up next: With the fall season wrapped up, the Cougars will set their sights on the NCAA Regional Championships in Orlando, Florida, where Otto Schreiner and Adam Chodur will represent BYU on the national stage.
