IRVING, Texas — BYU women’s soccer defender Izzi Stratton and freshman Mia Lopez earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards, the conference announced Monday morning.
Stratton’s conference nod is her first of the season, BYU’s second defensive award in 2025. Avery Frischknecht earned the honor back in week two of Big 12 play.
Stratton played two 90-minute matches for the Cougars in the final week of the regular season, pulling out key defensive stops in both. In Thursday’s match against up-state rival Utah, Stratton held her backline strong to earn the shutout victory and guarantee BYU’s spot in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament.
Lopez earned her second Freshman of the Week honor of the year after back-to-back games with goals. She scored BYU’s lone goal against UCF before scoring the first of two goals against the Utes Thursday night. Lopez is now the second-highest goal scorer for the Cougars with six goals as a true freshman.
