This year marks the 14th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 38th overall for BYU, who finished sixth in the 15-team Big 12 for a second-consecutive year. The Cougars have earned a trip to the tournament in each of Olmstead’s 11 seasons at the helm, advancing at least to the second round in nine of her previous 10 seasons.
Closing out the regular season on a four-match win streak, BYU picked up a pair of Top 25 wins in the final two weeks, beating No. 13 Kansas last week and No. 23 Colorado on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars wrapped up the year leading the Big 12 in total aces (192), while finishing second in aces per set (1.68), assists per set (13.01), hitting percentage (.268), kills per set (13.97), total assists (1,483) and kills (1,593).
BYU ranked No. 18 nationally in assists per set, No. 19 in kills per set, No. 20 in total kills and No. 22 in assists. Outside hitter Suli Davis was ninth in the country in total kills, with setter Alex Bower at 11th nationwide in assists per set.
Individually, Bower led the league in assists per set (10.68) and total assists (1,217), while middle blocker Brielle Kemavor's .375 hitting percentage was a conference high. Davis was second in the Big 12 in both total kills (523) and points (573).
Teams winning both matches this weekend will move onto regional play from Dec. 11-14. Regional winners will advance to the national semifinals, slated for Dec. 18 on ESPN, with the championship match set for Dec. 21 on ABC.
