THE COUGARS. BYU opened its season in front of 4,000 fans at the Marriott Center on Friday, Jan. 9. The Cougars outscored No. 7 Oregon State 195.675-194.525 to open the 2026 season with a top-10 win. BYU outscored the Beavers on vault (48.875-47.900) and bars (49.150-48.700). BYU’s highest event score was its 49.150 on bars. In last year’s rendition of the Best of Utah competition, the Cougars earned a fourth-place finish and a score of 195.750.

THE UTES. Utah opened its season with a tri-meet at the Huntsman Center in front of 11,191 fans. The Utes took home a first-place finish with a score of 196.625, beating No. 15 Minnesota and No. 22 Iowa. Utah will compete in the Spouts Farmers Market Quad Meet before the Best of Utah competition. The Utes will face No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 LSU and No. 4 UCLA in their quad meet.

THE AGGIES. Utah State will open its season at the Best of Utah meet on Monday night. The Aggies were picked second in the Preseason Mountain West Poll, and 33rd in the Preseason WCGA Poll. Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Kristin White, Utah State returns nine letterwinners and 12 total gymnasts from last year's team that won the 2025 Mountain West Championship, its seventh conference title in program history, and qualified for NCAA Regionals for the 28th time in program history.

THE THUNDERBIRDS. SUU opened its season hosting Boise State at America First Event Center. The Thunderbirds outscored the Broncos 195.675-194.300 in their season opener. The T-Birds earned the top two spots on the bars with Niya Randolph scoring a 9.900 and Mia Hampton earning a 9.850. Randolph set a high standard for the season, taking first in the all-around with an incredible 39.400. Hampton was right on her tail, though, with a 39.275, a new career high.
