TEMPE, Ariz. - BYU swim and dive earned 464 points in its first day of competition at the Big 12 West Championship Meet Friday.

Swimming
Competition began with the 200 medley relay, where the BYU A team took fifth at 1:27.22. The B team trailed just behind in 6th, finishing their event at 1:29.44.

The first individual event was the 100 butterfly, where sophomore Max Kleinman took sixth at 47.43 and senior Jacob Ballard took seventh at 48.42. Tanner Edwards and Jake Aina also competed in the event, claiming 12th and 14th.

Tanner Nelson placed in fourth in the 400 individual medley, hitting the wall at 3:52.64. Tyler Edlefsen also placed in seventh, earning a time of 3:55.42. Joshua Reed would later lead the Cougars in the 200 freestyle with a seventh-place finish at 1:38.20.

Peter Etzold and Will Bonnett swam in the 100 breaststroke, with Etzold grabbing a third-place finish (52.79) and Bonnett taking fifth (53.84).

The BYU A team would conclude the morning competition with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:20.33.

Kleinman opened the evening competition with a fourth-place performance in the 100 backstroke at 47.20. Following that event, Etzold secured another third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 1:57.84.

The 500 freestyle saw Nelson take third at 4:22.40 and senior Darwin Anderson earn a sixth-place finish at 4:26.34.

Competition closed with the 400 medley relay, where the A team took fifth at 3:12.58. The B team also competed, finishing at 3:16.85 in eighth.

Diving
Martí Llop took second in the 1-meter event, scoring a 327.15. He was followed by Ashton Sparks, who took sixth at 304.90, and Elijah Baker, who finished 12th at 196.50.
