TEMPE, Ariz. – The BYU women’s gymnastics team dropped its first Big 12 meet of the season at ASU, falling 196.050-195.200.
Ava Jorgensen led the meet on the uneven bars with a 9.9. Brynlee Andersen-Broekman also earned the top spot for her 9.875 on beam.
The Cougars opened the competition on the uneven bars. Sophomore Addilyn Glazier started strong with a season-high 9.800, followed by Deb Silva’s 9.850, which tied her season and career high on the apparatus. Jorgensen’s career-high 9.9 led the Cougars to close out the rotation.
After the first rotation, BYU led 49.075–48.900.
Mya Kirkham and Daisy Stephenson opened the vault rotation with a pair of 9.775s. Silva followed with a 9.800, marking her third straight competition with a vault score of 9.800 or higher. Jorgensen and Kylie Eaquinto anchored the Cougars, scoring 9.825 and 9.800, respectively. BYU posted a 48.975, tying its season-high on vault.
Heading into the third rotation, the Cougars extended their lead over the Sun Devils to 98.050–97.750.
Freshman Scarlett Sonnenberg and junior Andersen-Broekman earned a pair of 9.775s for the Cougars, followed by Eaquinto’s 9.850. The Cougars notched a floor score of 48.075.
ASU’s 49.075 on beam tightened the gap, but BYU held its lead heading into the final rotation of the night at 146.900–146.825.
For the second meet in a row, Sonnenberg opened the beam rotation with a career-high 9.825. After two falls, Chloee Hoke bounced back for BYU with a 9.775 before Alilah Alvarado notched a 9.800. Andersen-Broekman closed out the competition with a stuck routine, earning a 9.875.
ASU’s strong floor rotation featuring two 9.9s propelled the Sun Devils to victory over the Cougars, 196.050–195.200.
