PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf will head to the Tucson, Arizona desert for the Arizona N.I.T at Omni Tucson National Resort from Jan. 26-27 to open the 2026 spring season.
“Our players and coaches are excited to get the spring season underway,” said director of golf Todd Miller. “Our practices and qualifying rounds have gone well and the guys are healthy. The N.I.T. hosted at Omni Tucson National is a great course for us to start the spring. The course is very gettable and we are the defending champions. Our focus the last few days have been on short irons and putts inside 10 feet. The Catalina course gives you a lot of chances to hit your wedges close and make birdies.”
On the lineup card for the event are seniors Tyson Shelley and Simon Kwon, junior Peter Kim and freshmen Kihei Akina and Jackson Mauss. Junior Angus Klintworth will participate as an individual. They will look to repeat the 50-under-par victory performance from last season at this very tournament where Kwon and Kim finished second and T-3 respectively.
“So pumped! We have been putting in a lot of work this offseason and we want to come out and prove we are one of the best teams in the country,” Kwon said.
“Super excited to get things started this spring and see a lot of familiar places,” Kim said. “We have played well here in Tucson the last couple years and hopefully we can come out hot!”
Competing alongside BYU will be host Arizona, UTEP, Saint Mary’s, Texas, Cal, New Mexico State, Howard University, Fresno State, Wyoming, Grand Canyon, Santa Clara and Iowa State in a 13-team field.
“We have set some lofty goals as a team this spring season, and the guys are determined in their practice to prepare to accomplish those goals,” Miller said. “I’m excited to watch it unfold.”
The Cougars will tee off the 54-hole event Monday morning and finish Tuesday afternoon. Follow live scoring on Scoreboard and golf Instagram and X accounts for live updates.
