TUCSON, Ariz. — BYU men’s golf finished day one of the Arizona N.I.T. in fourth place at 10-under par before the event suspended play on Monday due to darkness at Omni Tucson National Resort.

Arizona, the host of the tournament, sits on top at 28-under par and leads all schools in birdies with 44. Texas is one stroke behind the Wildcats in second at 27-under par, and Saint Mary’s holds third at 15-under par. Behind BYU to round out the top five is New Mexico State and Cal sharing the fifth spot with 9-under par on the scorecard.

Freshman Kihei Akina posted a 6-under par and tied for seventh with seven holes to play. In 29 holes, Akina kept his scorecard clean and went bogey-free to go along with six birdies on the day. 

Simon Kwon and Tyson Shelley round out the top-25 by recording a 2-under par and tying for 25th with six holes to go. One of Shelley’s highlights is an eagle on hole 10 in round two. 

Peter Kim finished the day tied for 41st at 1-over par with six holes to play. 

With seven holes to play, Jackson Mauss recorded a 2-over par and tied for 49th. 

Angus Klintworth, while competing as an individual, shares the 65th spot at 5-over par and six holes remaining. 

The event will continue Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. MST to finish round two then tee off the final round. Follow live scoring on Scoreboard and updates on Instagram and X accounts.
