IRVING, Texas – BYU’s Tatum Cooley, Max Kleinman and Martí Llop were named to the Big 12’s weekly awards the conference announced Thursday.
The three earned first place finishes against Air Force and CMU in last weekend’s Double Dual at the Richard Building Pool (RBP) and contributed to pool records.
Cooley finished the 100 freestyle in first place at 49.74, a RBP record and the fifth fastest finish in BYU history. She also anchored for the BYU A relay team in the 200 freestyle relay. Her split of 22.43 helped earn the team a time of 1:30.79, a RBP record and the fastest finish in BYU history in the event.
Additionally, she anchored in the 400 medley relay, finishing her leg at 49.42 and earning a time of 3:40.23, another RBP record. Cooley also earned a first place finish in the 50 freestyle at 22.99.
Kleinman helped his team set new RBP records in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay events. As the leadoff, he clocked a 50 free time of 19.60 in the 200 freestyle relay, and the A team would eventually finish at 1:19.42, a new RBP record. Kleinman anchored in the 400 medley relay, earning a split of 42.64, contributing to the team's 3:10.42 overall time and first place finish - another RBP record.
He also helped his teams earn first place finishes in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay events, and took second in the 100 freestyle at 43.96.
Llop continued his season of dominance on the diving board for the Cougars with two first place finishes and personal bests in the 1m and 3m events. In the 1m, the Barcelona, Spain native earned a score of 331.20 on a 16.60 degree of difficulty. In the 3m discipline, Llop scored a 358.25, 43.40 points ahead of the second place finisher.
Llop competes alongside his dive teammates at the Air Force Invite beginning today, Jan 29, through Saturday, Jan 31. Cooley and Kleinman will return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 pm MST as the Cougars host Utah in a dual meet.
