COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — BYU dive completed its second day of competition at the Air Force Invite on Friday, with four Cougars in the top five.
Martí Llop led the men’s team for the second day in a row, with third-place finishes in both the preliminary and final rounds of the 1m event. Off a 16.60 degree of difficulty, the sophomore earned a 310.65 in the prelims and improved to a 310.80 in the finals. Following in fourth, freshman Ashton Sparks scored a 269.55 in prelims and a 290.05 in finals. He totaled a 17.90 degree of difficulty.
Elijah Baker also competed in the event, taking 19th with a 224.00 off of a 15.20 degree of difficulty in the preliminary round. His score marks a collegiate personal best for the freshman in the 1m discipline.
Coming in fourth, senior Sophia DeBergh led the BYU women in the 3m event with a 262.40 on a 15.60 degree of difficulty in the prelims. She followed that performance up with a 280.85 in the finals, marking a new collegiate personal best in the event.
Freshman Brooklyn Goeckeritz followed in fifth with a 258.45 in prelims and a 279.65 in the final round, totaling a 15.60 degree of difficulty as well. Her final score also marks a new collegiate personal best for the Ripon, Calif., native.
Betty Martin and Aubryn Ordyna claimed 20th and 21st in the 3m event, with Martin claiming a 221.10 and Ordyna earning a 216.85 in the preliminary round.
