PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s gymnastics team earned a 196.300-195.250 win over the Arizona Wildcats Friday night, staying undefeated at home with three straight wins at the Marriott center and a 4-3 record overall.
Mya Kirkham opened the vault rotation with a season-high 9.825. Sophomore Deb Silva followed up with a 9.850, tying her season high. Rounding out the apparatus for BYU, Ava Jorgensen notched a 9.800.
Heading into the second rotation, the Wildcats led the Cougars 49.025-48.925.
Kirkham kept the momentum going with a 9.800 on bars. Eaquinto followed with a season-high 9.875 after sticking her landing. Jorgensen and Alilah Alvarado rounded out the rotation, scoring 9.825 and 9.875, respectively.
BYU’s strong bars rotation earned a team score of 49.125, its highest on the event since opening week. The Cougars took the lead heading into the third rotation, 98.050–97.675.
Onto the beam, Scarlett Sonnenberg tied her career high with a 9.825. Brynlee Andersen-Broekman followed later in the rotation with a 9.875. True freshman Hazel Smith tallied a 9.775 to close out the third event of the evening.
Heading into the final rotation, BYU extended its lead to nearly a full point after scoring 48.975, making the total 147.025–146.500.
BYU opened the floor rotation with a pair of strong scores, led by Sonnenberg’s 9.850. Chloee Hoke followed by tying her career high with a 9.825. Eaquinto posted the Cougars’ highest score of the night, a season-high 9.900. Daisy Stephenson added a career-high 9.850. The Cougars matched their season-high team score on floor with a 49.275, finishing with a 196.300 to secure the victory over Arizona's 195.250.
