IRVING, Texas – BYU’s AJ Dybantsa has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for a second consecutive week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot-9 forward was also named to the Big 12 Starting Five for a sixth time after leading the Cougars to a 83-73 victory at Kansas State where he scored a team-high 24 points. It was his seventh-straight 20-point performance after going 8-of-14 from the field, 1-of-2 from 3-point range and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. He also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals as BYU won its ninth straight Big 12 game.

The nation’s leading scorer at 23.1 points per game, Dybantsa has scored 20-plus in nine games this season which is tied for the third-most by a freshman in program history. His two 30-point outbursts are tied for the most by a freshman in BYU history with Danny Ainge and Mekeli Wesley.

Dybantsa and the Cougars return to the Marriott Center on Wednesday, Jan. 7, to host Arizona State. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT on Peacock with Pete Sousa and Brendan Haywood on the call.
