The two programs previously competed against each other at the Big 12 West Championship Meet hosted by Arizona State this past January. The Utah men outscored the Cougars 739–730, earning third with BYU taking fourth. The Utah women took fourth with 926 points while BYU placed in fifth at 861.

Meet the Foe
The Utah men’s program sits at 5-1 on the year, with their sole defeat coming against SMU last weekend. Besides an opening victory against the Wyoming Cowboys, the Utes have seen very similar success with the Cougars, defeating Colorado Mesa, UNLV, Hawaii and Denver earlier in the season.

On the women’s side, Utah holds a record of 2-3, earning victories over Colorado Mesa and Hawaii. They too sustained a loss against the SMU Mustangs this past weekend. The two teams are led by head coach Jonas Persson, who leads the Utes for the fourth season.

BYU men’s swim and dive has defeated Utah the past two seasons in dual meets, with last season’s matchup in Salt Lake City. The Utah women hold a significant lead in the series over BYU, with the Cougars’ last win coming in the 2011-12 season.

BYU
BYU swim returns to the Richard Building Pool following victories over Colorado Mesa and Air Force at a home Double Dual meet. In that competition, the Cougars saw numerous pool records broken, and a new women’s 200 freestyle relay record set, with Taylor Bennett, Sophie Scoville, Lily Flint and Tatum Cooley claiming the fastest performance in BYU history at 1:30.79.

Cooley and Max Kleinman earned Big 12 weekly honors as the women’s and men’s swimmer of the week as a result of their performances in the Double Dual.

Diver Martí Llop also led the BYU dive team, earning the men’s diver of the week following the same competition.

Llop, alongside his diving teammates, most recently competed this past week at the Air Force Invite in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the team set new personal bests and finished in the top five several times.

Following Friday’s competition, BYU will travel to Greensboro, N.C., for the Big 12 Championships Feb. 24–28.
