DON'T POKE THE BEAR(S)
Tuesday will be the 14th all-time meeting between the two programs and BYU's fourth trip to Waco, second since they joined the Big 12. The Cougars lead the all-time series 7-6, including two straight wins, their longest streak in the series since four straight from 1962-1979.

BYU needed overtime to defeat the Bears in their only meeting last season as Kanon Catchings finished with 23 points in a 93-89 victory in front of 17,297 fans at the Marriott Center. The freshman was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, 4-of-4 from three and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe to fend off 28 points from VJ Edgecombe and 22 from Robert Wright III, who was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Cougars played the first-ever Big 12 game at Foster Pavilion on January 9, 2024, a 81-72 setback. Four players scored in double figures for BYU, led by 15 from Spencer Johnson and Trevin Knell as they were unable to hold onto a six-point halftime lead.

BACK IN THE LONE STAR STATE
Robert Wright III, a sophomore from Wilmington, Del, returns to McClennan County after spending his freshman season at Baylor, where he was an integral part of a Bears team that advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament, where he became the first freshman to lead the team in scoring in an NCAA Tournament with 19 in a win over Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-1 guard earned Big 12 All-Freshman and honorable mention in his lone season at Baylor, where he broke the single-season (148) and single-game (13) freshman assist records. In 35 appearances, including 21 starts last season, Wright III averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 35.2 percent from three and 79.6 percent from the free throw line.

Wright III isn't the only player who has suited up for both schools, as Caleb Lohner spent two seasons at Baylor after beginning his collegiate career at BYU, where he earned WCC All-Freshman Team honors in 2020-21. He concluded his collegiate career on the gridiron as a tight end at Utah before spending last year on the practice squad for the Denver Broncos after getting drafted with the 241st pick in the NFL Draft.

HOLDING THE LINE
Over BYU's past five games, AJ Dybantsa is averaging 29.6 points per game while shooting 51.7 percent from 3-point range, having made as many 3-pointers as Richie Saunders (15) during that stretch.

The 6-foot-9 freshman has knocked down multiple 3-pointers in four of his last five games, something he had only done three times in the previous 18 games. He knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers at Oklahoma State, tied for the eighth-most in a game by a freshman, tied with teammate Aleksej Kostic.

He owns the eighth-highest 3-point field goal percentage among freshmen in program history, shooting 37.8 percent from the field (min. 20 3FG made). He also owns the seventh-most 3-point field goals per game, making 1.35 triples per game.

FLAME THROWER
Richie Saunders enters the final eight Big 12 games of his collegiate career with 109 3-pointers, the fifth-most triples made by a player in conference play in program history.

The senior's 271 3-point attempts are also tied for the fifth-most all-time in league play.

BLOCK 'EM
With three blocks against No. 8 Houston, Keba Keita now has 40 rejections in 21 appearances this season, leaving him one away from tying his career-high and putting him in a tie for 19th on the single-season list.

For his two-year career at BYU, Keita has 81 blocks in 56 appearances, which is the 17th most rejections in program history. He needs two blocks to move up to 16th and four more to pass Jim Usevitch for 15th.

His performance against Houston was his seventh game of the season with at least three blocks, which is tied for the 10th most in a single season in program history with Alan Taylor (1979-80), Jeff Chatman (1986-87) and Yoeli Childs (2016-17).

ALWAYS (W)RIGHT
Through 23 games, Robert Wright III is one of 11 players in program history to average five or more assists as the sophomore has 115 assists entering Tuesday's matchup against Baylor. He has two games with 10 or more assists this season, which is tied for the ninth-most in program history with the likes of Egor Demin and Kresimir Cosic.

The sophomore also ranks 19th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.25:1), sandwiched between TJ Haws, who had a ratio of 2.26:1 in 2019-20 and 2.21:1 in 2017-18.

WHAT FRAN SAID
Following his 28-point performance against Kelvin Sampson and Houston on Saturday, AJ Dybantsa is on pace to become the sixth player in program history to average 24.0 or more points in a single season.

The freshman, who has scored in double figures in every one of his 23 collegiate games, is shooting 54.0 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from three and 74.9 percent from the free throw line. His 16 20-point performances are the second-most by a freshman in program history and tied for the 17th most in a single season in program history regardless of classification.
