PROVO, Utah — No. 23 BYU gymnastics returns to the Marriott Center for its final home meet of the season on Friday night, taking on No. 16 Denver.

THE COUGARS. No. 23 BYU last faced rival Utah on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Huntsman Center, falling to the Utes 198.025-196.025. The Cougars are now 1-2 on the road and 1-2 in Big 12 competition. Due to Iowa State cancelling the remainder of its gymnastics season, the Cougars’ final home meet of the year will be this coming Friday against Denver. Friday’s competition will highlight senior Kylie Eaquinto and junior Alilah Alvarado as BYU’s graduating gymnasts. 

THE PIONEERS. No. 16 Denver heads to Provo after starting its season with a perfect 7-0 run. The Pioneers hold a perfect 3-0 Big 12 record, with wins against West Virginia, Iowa State and Arizona State. In their trip to ASU last week, the Pioneers earned a new season high 196.950 to topple the Sun Devils’ 195.875. Denver also notched season-high bars and beam scores to help secure the victory. DU only counted one score below a 9.800 in the entire meet and matched its season high for total scores of 9.900 or higher with four.

COUGARS VS. PIONEERS. The Cougars and Pioneers have faced 62 times dating back to 1977, with Denver holding the all-time series record 38-24. The teams faced twice last season, once at NCAA Regionals and once during the regular season. Denver took home both wins last year. BYU’s last victory against Denver was back in March 2020.
