NEW YORK CITY – Jane Hedengren clocked the second-fastest 3000-meter time in NCAA history to place third at the Millrose Games this weekend at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.

In her first collegiate 3000m race, Hedengren broke BYU’s program record previously set by Lexy Halladay-Lowry (8:40.60) in 2025. Competing as an individual, the true freshman’s time of 8:34.98 would have surpassed the former NCAA record if not for Alabama junior Doris Lemngole, who won the event in 8:31.39. After following pacer and BYU alum Sadie Sargent through 1600m, Hedengren began to separate from the field before Lemngole edged ahead in the final 200m.

Hedengren raced alongside teammate Riley Chamberlain and BYU alumnae Halladay-Lowry, Sargent and Courtney Wayment, who compete for Nike Swoosh Track Club. The 2025 NCAA 3000m steeplechase runner-up, Halladay-Lowry, set a personal best of 8:38.98 to place fourth. Chamberlain finished eighth in 8:43.16, while Wayment placed 10th with a time of 8:52.01.
