PROVO, Utah – Powered by four scores 9.900 or higher on floor, the No. 23 Cougars upset the No. 16 Pioneers 196.575-195.925 at the Marriott Center on Friday night.

BYU opened on vault and scored 49.075, led by senior Kylie Eaquinto’s season-high 9.850. Deb Silva and Scarlett Sonnenberg followed with a pair of 9.825s. The 49.075 marked the Cougars’ second-highest vault score of the season.

Denver began on uneven bars and recorded a 49.000.

Ava Jorgensen and Alilah Alvarado each posted 9.875 on uneven bars to lead BYU to a 49.000. Eaquinto added a 9.800 as the team’s third-highest score on the event.

Denver scored 48.775 on vault in the second rotation, keeping BYU in front 98.075-97.775 at the halfway point.

On beam in the third rotation, Brynlee Andersen-Broekman led the Cougars with a 9.875. Sonnenberg added a 9.825 and Jorgensen recorded a 9.800 as BYU scored 48.950.

Denver took a narrow 147.125-147.025 lead after posting 49.350 on floor in the third rotation.

In the final rotation on floor, Eaquinto, Silva, Andersen-Broekman and Sonnenberg each scored at least 9.900, giving BYU its highest event total of the season, 49.550. This score was BYU's highest floor score since 2022. Eaquinto recorded a season-high 9.950, Silva notched a career-high 9.925, and Andersen-Broekman and Sonnenberg each earned 9.900. Sonnenberg’s mark was a career high. 

Denver scored 48.800 on beam in the final rotation, allowing BYU to reclaim the lead and secure the 196.575-195.925 victory. The win keeps the Cougars undefeated at home this season.
