PROVO, Utah — No. 7 BYU men's volleyball is at home for two matches in the Smith Fieldhouse against the Fort Valley State Wildcats this Friday and Saturday.
About the Cougars
BYU is coming off of two wins last weekend against Menlo. The Cougars have won seven matches in a row. In that stretch they've won 21 consecutive sets. It’s the longest undefeated set winning streak since BYU’s 2016 squad racked up 35 consecutive set victories. That team ended up finishing the season with a 27-4 record, advancing to the national championship match.
Senior outside hitter Trent Moser continues to lead the Cougars offensively this season with 3.42 kills per set on a .361 hitting percentage. He’s been extremely consistent for BYU, racking up between 10-14 kills in nine of the 11 matches he’s played in.
BYU is currently fourth in the NCAA in blocks per set at 2.784. Gavin Chambers is the Cougars’ individual leader with 1.318 blocks per set and 58 total blocks this season. His blocks per set are fifth-best individually in the NCAA..
In his 11th season with the BYU men’s volleyball program, head coach Shawn Olmstead is just two wins away from the 200-win plateau, with an opportunity to hit the milestone this Saturday. Olmstead is also seven wins away from matching Carl McGowan for the program’s most wins for a head coach (205). McGowan reached those victories in 336 matches. Olmstead is currently at 276 total matches.
About Fort Valley State
The Fort Valley State Wildcats are located in Fort Valley, Georgia. The university is an HBCU, competing in the Souther Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
After an 18-10 record last season, that propelled the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament, they are off to a 4-8 to start this season. Three of this season’s losses have come to powerhouses Long Beach, USC and UCLA.
The WIldcats played at home on Tuesday against Emmanuel University, winning in a reverse sweep.
Senior outside hitter and 2025 AVCA All-American Isaiah Fedd leads the attack for FVSU. His 3.70 kills per set this season are 15th best in the NCAA this season.
