SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — For the second-straight year, Delaney Gibb scored a career-high at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, including 18 fourth-quarter points, as BYU took down Utah 86-74 on Saturday afternoon.

Gibb was 13-of-21 from the floor with five made threes, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks as the Cougars completed the season sweep of the Utes for the first time since 2011.

BYU led 56-41 entering the fourth quarter, but just 2:13 into the fourth, the Utes had cut the Cougar lead to 10 with 7:47 remaining. Gibb went on a personal 9-2 run, knocking down three-consecutive triples to put BYU back up by 17. With Utah not going away, Gibb hit two more threes to keep the Utes at bay and the Cougars up 78-65.

The rest of the scoring for BYU was done in the last two minutes at the charity stripe, with BYU going 8-for-8 to close out the 86-74 win.

Sydney Benally, Lara Rohkohl and Olivia Hamlin each finished in double figures for BYU with 13, 11 and 11, respectively. Benally and Hamlin each connected on four field goals and two triples in the win, while the freshman backout combined for 24 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Rohkohl finished 4-of-6 from the floor for 11 points, five rebounds, two on the offensive glass and six blocks, a season high.

BYU shot 53.7 percent from the field on the night, 45.8 percent from downtown to outshoot the Utes in both categories. The Cougars grabbed 10 offensive boards, converting them into 10 second-chance points and forced 16 Utah turnovers, leading to 10 BYU points.

First Quarter
On the first possession, Rohkohl rebounded a BYU miss and kicked to an open Cannon, who hit the top-of-the-key triple to open the scoring.  After a Utah score, Gibb scored with a kiss off the glass to give the Cougars an early 5-2 lead.

Utah scored five-straight points to take a 10-7 lead with 5:45 remaining in the first. A left-corner triple by Hamlin, assisted by Gibb, knotted the game at 10. A free throw from Rohkohl and a driving layup from Sydney Benally pushed BYU ahead11-10 before Utah retook a slim advantage. Trailing 16-5, BYU scored the final four points of the quarter with driving layups from Rohkohl and Gibb to take a 19-16 lead after the opening frame.

Second Quarter
The Utes opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to retake a two-point advantage. The Cougars then held the Utes scoreless for 4:43 while going on an 11-0 run to slingshot ahead by 9 at 30-21.

Hamlin sparked the run with a fastbreak layup assisted by Benally before a score by Bolanle Yussuf off the window. After a block by Rohkohl, Gibb kicked to Benally for a transition triple before a step-back jumper by Gibb, leading to a timeout. A pair of free throws for Rohkohl capped the run before a Utah jumper with 3:33 left in the half.

BYU held the Utes without a field goal for the rest of the quarter, but six-straight free throws for Utah trimmed the lead from nine to two with 53 seconds remaining. Cannon snapped the Cougar scoring drought as she broke the press and went right to the rim for two. After Benally drew an offensive foul, Gibb scored through contact and connected on a free throw to give BYU a seven-point lead at the break, 36-29.

Third Quarter
The Cougars opened the half with a score off the window by Rohkohl, assisted by Gibb, before Cannon snatched a pass, kicked to Gibb, who made the extra pass to Kambree Barber in the right corner for three. The five-consecutive points pushed the BYU run to 10-0 before another score for Rohkohl, assisted by Benally, to put BYU up 43-29 with 8:03 left in the third.

After Gibb missed a three-point attempt, she got her own rebound and put it back for two before Utah’s first point of the third quarter, coming from the line with 6:14 left. On the next BYU possession, Gibb came off a screen, beat her defender and scored high off the glass. Another score by Gibb was followed by a Benally jumper that got a friendly roll to cap a 6-0 run and push the lead to 21 with 4:48 remaining in the third. A 7-0 Utah run cut the lead to 14 before a step-back triple by Gibb ended the scoring spurt. BYU led 56-41 at the close of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
An 11-6 run by Utah cut the lead to 10 with 7:47 left. Gibb scored the next nine points for the Cougars, all via the three-ball, to put BYU ahead 73-56. Utah wouldn’t go away as they cut the lead to 10 with 3:51 to play, but a pair of freebies from Benally and another three from Gibb kept the Cougars ahead by 13.

In the final two minutes, the Cougars were a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line to close out a season sweep of the Utes with an 86-74 win in Salt Lake City.
