CATHEDRAL CITY Calif. — BYU softball dropped the second game of its Friday doubleheader to Auburn, 10-1, in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Big League Dreams Complex.

The Cougars (3-10, 0-0 Big 12) surrendered runs to the Tigers in each of their four innings at bat. BYU got runners aboard in four of its five innings, but managed just one run in the second inning.

Player Highlights

Auburn got things going early with a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the first inning.

BYU answered in the top of the second with singles by Hailey Shuler and Maddie Udall-Woolley before a Bre Townsend fielder’s choice and wild pitch scored Udall-Woolley to cut into the Tiger lead at 2-1.

Auburn answered back, putting up three runs apiece in the second and third frames on a combined five hits and one Cougar error to go in front 8-1.

The Tigers tacked on two more in the fourth after a leadoff walk and homer for a 10-1 lead.

BYU picked up a one-out single off the bat of Danica Acosta, but a fielder’s choice and comeback to the pitcher closed out the Cougars’ nightcap contest in a run-rule defeat.
