PROVO, Utah — No. 6 BYU men's volleyball is on the road this week for two matches in Honolulu against No. 3 Hawai'i on Wednesday and Friday.
About the Cougars
BYU has won nine consecutive matches and 27 consecutive sets. It's the longest set winning streak for the Cougars since the 2016 season.
Most recently, the Cougars defeated Fort Valley State in a pair of sweeps at the Smith Fieldhouse last weekend. BYU's only losses this season came in five-set thrillers at home against No. 5 UC Irvine.
Individually the Cougars are led offensively by Trent Moser who is hitting .375 with 3.39 kills per set. Setter Tyler Herget is averaging 10.30 assists per set, ninth-best in the NCAA. Middle blocker Gavin Chambers is averaging 1.34 blocks per set, fifth-best in the NCAA.
The Cougars are coached by Shawn Olmstead who is coming off of his 200th career victory last weekend. In 11 seasons with the program, Olmstead is now five wins away from matching his former coach, Carl McGown, for the most wins in program history. Olmstead is currently the ninth-winningest active coach in the NCAA.
About the Warriors
Hawai'i, like BYU, has also won nine consecutive matches. It's the eighth consecutive season that the Warriors have had a match win streak of at least nine matches.
Most recently, the Warriors defeated No. 18 Stanford with a pair of sweeps on the road. The only UH loss this season came against Loyola Chicago, ranked No. 7 at the time.
Individually the Warriors are led by Kainoa Wade who is hitting 3.51 kills per set on the third-best hitting percentage in the NCAA, .464. Libero Quintin Greenidge leads the Big West with 2.08 digs per set. Setter Tread Rosenthal is averaging 11.06 assists per set, third-best in the NCAA.
The Warriors are coached by Charlie Wade who at 331 career wins in 17 seasons is the fourth-winningest active coach in the NCAA.

BYU leads the all-time series 42-25. However, UH has won five of the last six meetings, dating back to 2019. These teams met last season in Provo, with the Warriors taking both matches. Overall, BYU is 25-6 against Hawai'i in Provo. The series is tied in Honolulu, 15-15. These two teams also met in the 2021 NCAA championship match.
