GREENSBORO, N.C. — BYU currently sits in fifth at the conclusion of Day 1 of the Big 12 Championship.

Freshman Mattia Reina set a new top-10 record, finishing the 50 butterfly in 21.92, the 10th-fastest time in BYU history. Reina’s performance came in the time-trial portion of Tuesday’s events.

Swimming
BYU competed in two relay events, the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay. In the 200 medley relay, Max Kleinman, Peter Etzold, Jake Aina and Tanner Edwards earned fourth, hitting the wall in 1:25.16.

Tanner Nelson, Payton Plumb, Joshua Reed and Darwin Anderson represented the Cougars in the 800 freestyle relay, taking fifth in 6:23.77.

Diving
BYU competed in the team event, the sole diving competition of the day. The team event combines the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform disciplines, combining total scores as programs compete against each other. The Cougars ended the competition in seventh, totaling an overall score of 255.20.
