PROVO, Utah – The Cougars seek their first Big 12 indoor track and field title Feb. 27-28 at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Jane Hedengren and Riley Chamberlain are expected to headline the distance crew, as each has set NCAA records this season. Hedengren will line up for the mile and 3000-meter, events in which she holds the No. 2 time in the NCAA. Chamberlain, who set the NCAA mile record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14 with a 4:20.61, is set to compete in the 800 meters and 3000m. This will be the senior’s first 800-meter race this season.
Zariel Macchia will join Hedengren in the mile. Macchia’s personal best is 4:38.02. Tessa Buswell, BYU’s No. 4 all-time performer in the 800m, will join Chamberlain after placing third at last year’s indoor Big 12 Championships.
Nelah Roberts will represent the Cougars in the 5000m, while Jacey Harkins-Farmer, Taylor Rohatinsky, Jenna Hutchins and Raygan Peterson will compete alongside Chamberlain and Hedengren in the 3000m.
Rohatinsky, Kali McEuen, Krystie Solomon-Jensen and Hutchins are set to compete in the distance medley relay Friday night. It will mark the group’s first time competing together.
Paje Rasmussen accounted for three school records at the Don Kirby Invitational. The Draper, Utah native set program bests in the 60m and 200m and ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay. The school-record 4x400m relay team will compete again this weekend after posting a 3:31.24.
Zoey Bonds and Tia Brown will compete in the pentathlon Friday. Bonds holds the No. 5 mark in BYU history with 4,105 points, set this season at the BYU December Indoor Invitational.
The throws group will be represented by Lia Katoa, Kat Beachler and Kaiah Fisher. Katoa will compete in Friday’s weight throw and currently ranks No. 9 in the event in BYU history. Beachler and Fisher will join Katoa in the shot put Saturday.
