LUBBOCK, Texas – The distance medley relay squad won the Big 12 title on the first day of the Big 12 Championships Friday.
The group, which includes two BYU all-time school record holders in other indoor events, came across the line in 9:35.98 after leading the pack for the majority of the race. This is BYU's first men's DMR Big 12 title since joining the conference in 2023. Cutting also advanced to the finals of the mile after taking ninth in the prelims in a time of 4:06.64.
Noah Jenkins, the No. 7 all-time BYU record holder in the 5000-meter finished sixth overall in the event in a time of 13:53.34, with teammate Isaac Hedengren finishing just behind him at 11th in 13:59.07.
Jake Orr finished fourth in the 800m prelims, coming across the line in 1:50.57 joined by Jacob Robison finishing less than four seconds later in 1:54.05 to take eighth. Both Orr and Robison advanced to the finals on Saturday.
Carter Walker finished eighth in the high jump clearing a height of 2.03m/6-8 on his first attempt. Connor Saunders recorded the same height in a personal-best performance clearing the bar on his final attempt to take 11th.
Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton each cleared 5.20m/17-0.75 in the pole vault to take eighth and ninth place respectively. For Zimmerman that marks a personal-best height and for Thornton a season record.
Jonah Heimuli advanced to the finals in the 600-yard dash after taking fourth in the prelims in a time of 1:09.11.
Ben Barton and Jaden Roskelley clocked in at third and fourth after four events in the Heptathlon with 3314 and 3208 points recorded respectively thus far. Roskelley finished first in the heptathlon shot put with a mark of 14.17m/46-6. Barton took first in the heptathlon high jump clearing a height of 2.04m/6-8.25. The final three events of the multi-event will finish Saturday.
