GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three BYU swimmers medaled on the fourth day of competition at the Big 12 Championships.
Jacob Ballard competed in the championship final of the 200 butterfly, earning seventh at 1:45.46. Will Bonnett and Peter Etzold represented in the 100 breaststroke, with Etzold taking sixth at 52.58 and Bonnett placing eighth at 43.09.

The team also saw two new BYU top-10 records set from Mattia Reina and Bonnett. Reina, a freshman, swam the 200 butterfly in 1:45.34, the third-fastest performance in program history. Bonnett, a junior, secured the fourth-fastest time in BYU 100 breaststroke history, finishing the event at 52.88 in prelims.
Prelims
Friday’s prelims opened with the 200 butterfly, where Jacob Ballard, Reina and Connor Seminavage qualified for finals. Ballard took eighth, finishing at 1:45.21, while Reina took 10th at 1:45.34, marking the third-fastest 200 butterfly time in BYU history. Seminavage earned 24th at 1:49.39, putting him in the bonus round at finals.
The 100 breaststroke followed, where Peter Etzold, Bonnett and Evan VanderSluis competed. All three qualified for finals, with Etzold and Bonnett earning placements in the championship round. Etzold took fifth, marking a time of 52.79, and Bonnett followed in seventh at 52.88. Bonnett's performance stands as the fourth-fastest finish in BYU history. VanderSluis placed 17th at 54.27, earning him a spot in the bonus round of finals.
Prelims concluded with the 100 backstroke, with Tanner Edwards and Max Kleinman qualifying for finals. Kleinman earned 10th with his finish at 46.90, and Edwards took 18th, hitting the wall at 47.62.
Finals
Finals began with Seminavage in the bonus round of the 200 butterfly, where he took sixth at 1:48.82. Reina followed in the consolation round, earning third at 1:46.08. Ballard capped off the BYU representation in the 200 butterfly in the championship round, taking seventh with a time of 1:45.46.
VanderSluis opened the 100 breaststroke finals with a first-place performance in the bonus round, where he secured a time of 53.67. Etzold and Bonnett then competed in the championship round. Etzold led the duo with a sixth-place finish at 52.58, and Bonnett came in eighth, hitting the wall at 43.09.
Finals closed with the 100 backstroke, where Edwards competed in the bonus round, with Kleinman in the consolation. Edwards earned sixth, finishing at 48.25. Kleinman then took fourth at 47.02.
Competition closed Friday with the 200 freestyle relay, where BYU took fourth. Kleinman, Payton Plumb, Edwards and Joshua Reed finished the event at 1:18.48.
Diving
Friday’s diving event featured the men’s platform, where Elijah Baker, Martí Llop and Ashton Sparks competed. Llop led BYU in seventh, totaling a score of 293.20. Sparks followed in 15th at 242.80, and Baker earned 20th at 166.90.
Both Llop and Sparks competed in finals, with Llop earning eighth and improving off his preliminary score at 308.70. Sparks scored 242.05, placing 14th.
