PROVO, Utah — After two road sweeps in California last weekend, the No. 8 BYU men's volleyball team will head to the opposite coast for the Harvard Invitational Tournament this weekend, with matches on Friday, Saturday and Monday against No. 20 Lincoln Memorial, Harvard and Merrimack, respectively.
About the Cougars
BYU has a 6-2 record this season with wins over No. 10 UC San Diego at home and No. 15 UC Santa Barbara on the road. The Cougars' only losses were both in tight, five-set matches to No. 5 UC Irvine.
Senior outside hitter Trent Moser continues to pace BYU offensively with 3.29 kills per set. Outside/opposite Connor Oldani is right there with 3.14 kills per set.
The Cougars racked up a season-high 15 blocks in their most reacent matchup last Saturday. Both BYU middle blockers, Gavin Chambers and Max Philippe, had career highs in blocks last weekend.
About Lincoln Memorial
Lincon Memorial is ranked No. 20, with a 4-2 record. The Railsplitters started the season with three straight wins and are 1-2 since. They have also had three matches cancelled or postponed due to inclement winter weather this season.
LMU is led by Johan Negron and Azel van Baars who are averaging 3.25 and 3.19 kills per set, respectively.
This will be the first time the Cougars and Railsplitters have faced each other.
About Harvard
Harvard is off to a 1-4 start to the season. The Crimson opened up their schedule at the UCSB Invitational, facing three Top-15 teams and two common opponents with BYU. They lost 3-0 to No. 5 UC Irvine and 3-1 to No. 17 UCSB.
Sawyer Nichols leads the Crimson with 2.39 kills per set. Quinn Bishop leads the team with 10 service aces.
The Cougars are 2-0 all-time against Harvard, with both matches taking place last season in Provo.
About Merrimack
Merrimack has played just four games this season and are 1-3, most recently falling 3-0 to No. 19 Princeton.
Kyle Standage is a dig machine, leading the Warriors and the NCAA in digs per set at 3.60. Dallas Birkenbeuel is by far Merrimack's favorite offensive option to go to. He leads the NCAA in attacks per set at 9.89.
The Cougars and Warriors haven't yet faced each other, with this match being their first.
