COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - After defeating Denver (5-4) in thrilling fashion on Friday, the No. 57 BYU Cougars run of winning its first ten games came to an end with a 6-1 loss to Air Force (4-4).

The Cougars began the weekend by avenging their 2025 and 2020 losses to the Pioneers with a tightly contested 4-3 victory that came down to a late third-set decision where Caden Hasler clinched the win, but were unable to carry that momentum into Saturday’s matchup against the Falcons, falling to Air Force for the first time since 2014 with a 6-1 loss.

Friday vs. Denver

With the doubles point on the line, BYU found itself down early on court two but rebounded quickly when Tygen Goldammer and TJ Wells delivered a 6-3 win, which focused the attention on court one to decide the opening point. Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner ended the back-and-forth affair on top with a 7-5 win, earning the Cougars the doubles point in Denver.

While BYU had the early advantage, Denver started to gain momentum, winning four of the first six sets of singles play. After earning a win over Yubel Ubri in his return to game action, David Duong rallied to sweep his match with a 6-3, 6-4 win, but the Cougars were unable to hold off the Pioneers, who evened the match once again, this time in tiebreaker fashion over Wells.

Tied 2-2, Goldammer rebounded from a tight 7-4 second-set loss in convincing fashion with a 6-1 win, which put BYU within striking distance. However, for the third consecutive time in the match, Denver responded with a point of its own with a 7-5 win over Chodur on court one.

The focus shifted to Hasler, who was eyeing a comeback win after falling 6-2 in the opening set and evened it with a 7-5 win. Eventually, the freshman Cougar capped off the 6-4 victory in the third set to clinch the 4-3 win for the Cougars on the road.

Saturday vs. Air Force

After splitting the first two court, the doubles point was decided with a narrow 7-5 win over Owen and Hasler who were making their second appearance of the season as a duo.

Already down, the Cougars faced further adversity early in singles play when Ubri had to retire the match. With the score 2-0, the Falcons sealed the win with three straight sets over Hasler, Duong and Chodur.

BYU was able to avoid the sweep when Goldammer clinched a straight set of his own with a 6-3, 6-4 win, but ended up being the Cougars only point of the match after Owen fell in the third set, making the final score 6-1 and ending the Cougars unblemished season.
