ST. GEORGE, Utah — BYU softball dropped game one of its Trailblazer Classic doubleheader to Omaha in five innings, 9-0 at Karl Brooks Field on Friday morning.
The Cougars (6-18, 0-3 Big 12) put a pair of runners on via walks, but were no-hit by the Mavericks in the run-rule contest.
Omaha jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning with two home runs, a two run shot and three-run jack.
BYU’s lone baserunners came on Hailey Shuler and Rita Tavita walks to open the second, but a bunt foul out, fielder’s choice and swinging strikeout left the Cougars stranded in scoring position.
The Mavericks homered again in the third, another three-run shot to center, putting themselves up 8-0 and in run-rule territory.
Omaha plated one more in the top of the fifth on a walk, BYU fielding error and bloop single, going ahead by a final score of 9-0.
