PROVO, Utah – The No. 57 Cougars lost for the first time at home this season, falling 4-0 to the No. 17 Wildcats at the Outdoor Tennis Courts Thursday evening.
With the loss, BYU falls to 12-3, losing back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
In doubles, the Cougars found themselves in three tightly contested games, scoring up to three points on each court but eventually being defeated on the first two, which gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
With the singles points up for grabs, Arizona kept the early momentum, winning the first set on five of the six courts. Adam Chodur was the lone Cougar to win his opener, earning a close 7-6 tiebreaking victory.
Yubel Ubri returned from injury, competing in his first singles match since the Colorado road trip, but was unable to overcome a 6-0 first-set loss and fell 6-4 in the second set.
Down 2-0, the Wildcats clinched the victory with consecutive sweeps on courts five and six, making the final score 4-0.
Up next, BYU will have a short turnaround with another home match, this time taking on the No. 35 Oklahoma State Cowboys Saturday afternoon at 3:30 MST at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
