PROVO, Utah — No. 53 BYU women’s tennis continues Big 12 play this week with a two-match road swing, traveling to Colorado on Thursday before heading to Texas Tech on Saturday.
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 13-4 overall record and 2-3 mark in conference play, riding a two-match win streak after a strong showing at home last week. BYU remains perfect in Provo this season at 6-0 and has compiled a solid 5-3 record in road matches.
BYU is coming off back-to-back wins over Cincinnati and West Virginia, both of which came down to key moments late in singles play. Against Cincinnati, the Cougars battled to a 4-3 victory, with Bella Lewis delivering the clinching point. With the match on the line, Lewis stepped up in a pressure-filled situation and finished off her opponent to secure the team win.
Two days later against West Virginia, BYU earned a 4-2 victory behind another clutch performance from freshman Sage Bergeson. Bergeson sealed the match for the Cougars, showing poise in a deciding moment to clinch BYU’s second win of the weekend.
Thursday’s matchup in Boulder brings a familiar opponent for the Cougars. BYU holds a 21-3 advantage in the all-time series against Colorado, though the Buffaloes enter the week at 13-5 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play. Colorado has been strong on its home courts this season and will look to defend that advantage at the Meadows Club.
BYU will then travel to Lubbock to face Texas Tech, a team the Cougars are still searching to break through against. The Red Raiders hold a 4-0 edge in the all-time series and come in at 13-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Saturday’s match will be played at the McLeod Tennis Center.
With momentum building from recent clutch performances and conference play heating up, the Cougars will look to carry their confidence on the road and continue climbing the Big 12 standings.
