BOULDER, Colo. — BYU women’s tennis rallied from a doubles deficit to defeat Colorado 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Meadows Club, improving to 14-4 on the season.
The Cougars showed resilience throughout the afternoon, overcoming a tough start in doubles with a dominant singles performance to secure the road win. Colorado claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, despite a strong 6-4 victory from Gracie Levelston and Karina Mohamed on court one.
BYU quickly responded in singles play, winning four courts to take control of the match. Levelston set the tone at No. 1 singles with a composed 6-2, 6-4 win over Aya El Sayed, giving the Cougars early momentum.
Sue Yan Tan followed with a strong performance at No. 3 singles, taking the first set 6-1 before closing out the match in a second-set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-2). Bella Lewis added another key point at No. 6, battling through a tight first set and finishing with a 7-5, 6-4 win to put BYU within reach of the team victory.
YuYun Chen clinched the match for the Cougars at No. 4 singles, defeating Lera Alexin 7-5, 7-5. In a match defined by close games and long rallies, Chen remained steady in key moments, pulling away late in both sets to secure the decisive point and complete the comeback for BYU.
The remaining match at No. 5 singles featuring Sage Bergeson went unfinished after the Cougars clinched the overall result.
BYU’s ability to respond after dropping the doubles point highlighted the team’s depth and composure, as four different Cougars delivered singles victories to seal the win.
