PROVO, Utah — In walk-off fashion by Danica Acosta, BYU softball took down Kansas in game two of the series, 4-3, at Gail Miller Field on Friday night.

BOX SCORE

The Cougars (11-21, 2-6 Big 12) wasted little time to get on the board after Hailey Morrow crushed a 3-run homer in the first.

Although the Jayhawks tied it up in the sixth, Acosta came up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh frame to put the game away with a solo shot to right field for her first career home run.

Player Highlights

BYU got the scoring going early in the contest. Hailey Shuler and Ilove’a Brittingham drew back-to-back four-pitch walks with two outs in the first before Hailey Morrow blasted an 0-1 pitch off the right field foul pole for a home run in the first inning. After Morrow’s sixth homer of the season, the Cougars led 3-0 through one.

The Cougars threatened once again in the second when a Bre Townsend single and a Kaiya Fabela double got the inning started. BYU was unable to cash in on the opportunity, which kept the score at 3-0.

The Jayhawks responded in the top of the fourth with two hits and a run off a fielder’s choice. BYU remained up 3-1.

Kansas closed the gap in the sixth after a two-run shot over the left field wall, tying the game up at three.

Shuler finished off her complete game showing by forcing a groundout to short with the go-ahead runner at third to set up a walk-off chance for BYU.

With two gone in the bottom of the seventh, Acosta called game on a solo blast to right for her first career home run. Scoring for the first time since Morrow's three-run shot in the first, BYU went home with the 4-3 victory, tying the series at one game apiece.
