PROVO, Utah – The men’s track and field team qualified seven entries for the 2026 NCAA Indoor National Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tayvon Kitchen earned entries in the 3000-meter and the 5000-meter after finishing the regular season ranked No. 3 and No. 12 in the NCAA respectively. The true freshman posted a 7:36.23 in the 3000m, setting the BYU school record, and securing himself as the fastest true freshman to ever compete in the event in the NCAA. He also took second overall at the Big 12 Championships in the event. He posted a 13:19.17 in the 5000m earlier in the season to secure a spot in that event.
Carter Cutting qualified for the mile after setting the BYU school record in the event twice during the 2026 season and finished the regular season ranked No. 10 in the NCAA with a 3:52.84 performance. The Junior from Wilsonville, Oregon is also expected to compete in the DMR.
Isaac Hedengren will compete in the 3000m alongside Kitchen after posting a NCAA No. 14 ranked 7:41.48. With that performance the junior from Provo also set the BYU all-time No. 3 record in the event.
Creed Thompson earned a spot in the 5000m after finishing just behind Kitchen at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic in an NCAA No. 13 ranked 13:21.43. The Senior notably won the 2026 Big 12 Championship in the 3000m.
Ben Barton qualified for the heptathlon after finishing the regular season ranked 15th in the NCAA in the event with a 5818 point performance he posted at the Penn Elite Invite in late January.
The DMR qualified for the national meet after finishing in 9:28.60 which converted to an NCAA No. 11 ranked 9:18.97 after altitude conversions at the Colorado Last Chance Meet. The relay group also won the Big 12 Championship on Feb. 28.
