TUCSON, Ariz. — BYU softball fell in game three at No. 13/14 Arizona, 16-3 in five innings at Hillenbrand Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (5-17, 0-3 Big 12) put up the game’s first two runs on an Ilove’a Brittingham home run, but surrendered 11 unanswered runs to the Wildcats.

BYU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Hailey Shuler reached on an Arizona throwing error and Brittingham lined a homer over the right field wall.
The Wildcats, in similar fashion to the game’s first two games, answered right back, batting through the order in their half of the first to score five runs on four hits and one Cougar error to go ahead 5-2.
Ballooning its advantage in the bottom of the second, Arizona went in front 11-2 after plating six runs on four hits, two wild pitches and a passed ball.
After a scoreless third, BYU plated one in the fourth on a Rita Tavita double to go along with singles from Hailey Morrow and Bre Townsend.
The Wildcats answered once more, batting through their order and putting up five more runs on four hits, two walks and one Cougar error.
BYU put two on in the fifth, but a fielder’s choice, swinging strikeout and line out ended the game via the run-rule, 16-3.

The Cougars will return to Provo for their home opener against Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at 4 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
