ROCKLIN, Calif. — Despite dropping the opening set, No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball rallied for a 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16) victory over Jessup Saturday night.

The Cougars are now 15-4 this season and 2-0 in MPSF play.

Trent Moser led the BYU attack Saturday night with 12 kills, hitting .474. Teilon-Jonathan Tufuga added 11 kills and Connor Oldani nine.

Gavin Chambers had four total blocks, Oldani three and Tufuga two.

Both Tyler Herget and Jackson Fife registered season-highs with 10 digs apiece.

Set 1

The Cougars opened the scoring with a Moser kill. The teams traded one-point leads for a while, until Jessup jumped out to the 15-11 lead at the first media timeout.

The Cougars chipped away and tied things up at 21-21 late in the set after a Jessup attack error.

The Warriors finished the set on a 4-2 to take the 25-23 win.

Jessup hit .355 in the set. It would be the only set they would hit a positive percentage in, going .000, -.048 and -.087 in the next three sets.

Set 2

Jessup started the second set up 2-0, but the Cougars chipped their way back.

Kills from Moser, Tufuga and Oldani helped BYU get up to a five-point lead at 17-12.

The Cougars ended the set on an 8-4 run to take the set handedly at 25-16, Moser finishing off the set with a kill.

BYU hit .571 in the set.

Set 3

The Cougars went up 5-1 in the third set of a Tufuga ace.

After that, Jessup went on an 8-2 run to go up 9-7.

BYU battled back again and eventually went up by five at 19-14 on an AJ Cottle kill.

Oldani finished the set on a kill to make it a 25-20 BYU win.

Set 4

Neither team held more than a one-point lead in the fourth set until BYU went up 7-5 on a Tufuga kill.

The Warriors wouldn’t get closer than those two points the rest of the match, with BYU going up 14-8 on a triple block from Oldani, Moser and Chambers, and the Cougars finishing things up at 15-16.
