IRVING, Texas – BYU’s Robert Wright III and AJ Dybantsa were named to the Big 12 Starting Five on Monday afternoon.
The duo is joined on this week’s edition of the Big 12 Starting Five by Baylor’s Tounde Yessoufou, Kansas’ Tre White and Colorado’s Isaiah Johnson.
In the Cougars' two games last week, Wright III averaged a team-high 24.0 points per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 100.0 percent from the free throw line, knocking down all 13 attempts from the charity stripe.
Following a 21-point performance in a setback to Cincinnati, Wright III responded with a game-high 27 points in BYU’s win over No. 10 Texas Tech on Saturday evening at the Marriott Center. The sophomore guard went 9-of-17 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line to lead the Cougars to their second Top 10 win of the season.
Dybantsa is named to the Big 12 Starting Five for an 11th time this season as the freshman averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He also went 15-of-46 from the field, 2-of-14 from three and 12-of-17 from the free throw line.
The 6-foot-9 forward had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists in the Cougars final road game of the season on Tuesday against Cincinnati. In what could be his final game at the Marriott Center, Dybantsa had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists as BYU picked up its first win over the Red Raiders since joining the Big 12.
The Cougars open the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, March 10, against Kansas State. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
