PROVO, Utah - No. 67 BYU men's tennis is back on the road this week as the Cougars take on a pair of the NCAA's best, beginning with a trip to face No. 5 TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth before traveling further south to Waco to take on No. 9 Baylor.

BYU is coming off a loss to Texas Tech, which brought its record to 13-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. With the loss, the Cougars have dropped four of their last five matches, with four remaining in the season. BYU will be looking for its first true road win since defeating Denver at the end of February. A win in either match would mark the Cougars’ highest-ranked victory in the past 25 years.

Keeping up with the Big 12

The Big 12 continues to establish itself as a tennis powerhouse, with three teams—TCU, Arizona and Baylor—ranked within the top nine, tying the SEC for the most teams in that tier.

Outside of the top three, four other programs are ranked alongside BYU: UCF at No. 15, Arizona State at No. 29, Oklahoma State at No.38, and Texas Tech at No. 66, just one spot ahead of the Cougars. This leaves all Big 12 teams ranked except Utah, which is coming off its first Big 12 win at home against the Red Raiders.

Player Spotlight

Last week, BYU’s top two singles players recorded wins, with Tygen Goldammer improving to 14-2 and Hardy Owen continuing his strong sophomore season with an 8-0 record. Senior Adam Chodur continues to lead the team, having played on court No. 1 in all 18 matches this season and currently holding a 9-8 record.

Scouting the TCU Horned Frogs

After going undefeated against conference opponents with an 8-0 record during their 26-3 regular-season 2025 campaign, the Horned Frogs have continued their momentum into this season as a top-five collegiate team.

Currently at 15-5, TCU has won seven of its last eight matches, with five of those victories coming against top-25 opponents and its only loss against Arizona.

Historically, BYU is 1-10 in the series and has been shut out in each of the last two seasons. The Cougars will look for their first win against the Horned Frogs since 2010 as they attempt to end TCU’s 28 consecutive wins on its outdoor courts.

The Horned Frogs retain many of the same players who earned the program its first NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship in 2024, including Duncan Chan, ranked No. 5 in singles. Additionally, the team features Cosme Rolland De Ravel at No. 35; reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Cooper Woestendick at No. 52; and Julian Alonso at No. 91.

In doubles, TCU has two ranked duos, including the No. 1 team in the nation with Duncan Chan and Rolland De Ravel.

Scouting the Baylor Bears

At 16-7, the Bears are on a four-match win streak and will have a match at home on Thursday against Utah before playing Midwestern State on Saturday, followed by a matchup against BYU later that day at 5 p.m. MDT.

In the season series, Baylor has won both previous matchups with 4-2 results in each of the last two years. This season, the Bears are 11-1 in Waco, as the Cougars attempt to earn their first win over Baylor.

Like TCU, Baylor also has four players ranked in singles, with Devin Badenhorst leading the pack at No. 8. Holding a 15-8 record, Badenhorst is on a five-match winning streak, which includes four straight-set wins.
