BEAUMONT, Texas — BYU baseball defeated Lamar 4-0 Monday night in a non-conference game at Schroeder Park in Beaumont, Texas. Cougar pitchers Austin Park, Luke Sterner and Ethan Zufall combined for the first shutout of the 2026 season, holding the Cardinals to just five hits while striking out seven in the win.

BYU (19-16, 8-7) scored four runs on nine hits, including six doubles. Meanwhile, Lamar (19-18, 11-7) had five hits and stranded five runners.

“Our pitching was very good again tonight,” said BYU head baseball coach Trent Pratt. “It was great to see our guys throw strikes and challenge their hitters. Offensively we did what we needed to do to win. We hit the ball hard and took advantage of extra-base hits to drive in runs.”

Ezra McNaughton: 1-2, Run, 2BB

Summary
After two scoreless innings by both teams to open the game, BYU took an early lead in the top of the third. Senior catcher Parker Goff led off the inning with a double to left and advanced to third on a single by second baseman Luke Anderson. Two outs later third baseman Easton Jones doubled to deep center field to score both runners for a 2-0 advantage.

Ater three more scoreless innings, the Cougars added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on three hits and a Lamar throwing error. Anderson led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. After Ezra McNaughton drew a full-count walk, Ryder Robinson bunted safely and Anderson scored on a Cardinal throwing error. An Easton Jones groundball then scored McNaughton for 4-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Austin Park scattered just three hits over a season high 4.2 innings, striking out five, while righty reliever Luke Sterner (1-0) came on in relief allowing just one hit over 3.0 innings for the win. Ethan Zufall came on in the eighth inning going 1.2 innings to close out the game.

The 4-0 shutout comes just two days after BYU pitching held Houston to a season-low scoring total of just one run on Saturday. The win extends the Cougars’ winning streak to five straight, the longest streak since the 2022 season.
