LONG BEACH, Calif. – Garrett Copelin joined the top five all-time at BYU in the 110-meter hurdles at the Beach Invitational Friday afternoon.

The sophomore finished in 13.90 to take third overall which tied Slade Combs 1999 performance in the event. The Tallahassee, Florida product joins a BYU top ten board for the first time of his career with his first finish under 14 seconds.

Copelin was joined in the event by Jayden Jessee who finished fourth overall in 13.97 seconds. This marks his first career performance under 14 seconds as well and would have placed him at No. 7 on the BYU all-time list if not for a 2.4m/s tailwind. 

Friday, Brayden Dahl took first in the 200-meter open clocking in at 21.18 with Jonah Heimuli and Copelin finishing just behind him at third and fourth. 

Erik Bryant competed in the hammer throw finishing 31st and Brinton Paulson and Hayden Gribble appeared in the javelin taking 12th and 24th respectively.

Saturday saw Dahl again finished first in his event, this time in the 400-meter hurdles crossing the line in 51.00 seconds. Copelin joined Dahl in the event and finished third in a personal-best 51.95 seconds, breaking his previous best mark by 0.01 seconds.

The pair joined forces alongside Jonah Heimuli and Josh Taylor to take first in the 4x400-meter relay finishing in 3:09.40. Heimuli also competed in the 400-meter dash open finishing 11th overall in a time of 47.65.

Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton each vaulted 4.95m/16-2.75 to finish 15th and 16th respectively in the pole vault. Carter Walker and Hayden Gribble also jumped the same mark in the high jump at 2.02m/6-7.5 for eighth alongside Connor Saunders who finished 10th with a 1.97m/6-5.5 mark.

Mark Bryant took 11th in the shot put with a toss of 17.25m/56-7.25 competing alongside Tyler Poole who took 12th setting a mark of 16.98m/55-8.5.

Caleb Johnson competed in the 1500-meter Saturday night taking 30th overall in a time of 3:42.71. Johnson was joined by Brayden Packard in the event who finished in 3:56.75.

Friday saw Carson Riner make an appearance in the javelin throw taking fifth overall with a throw of 66.29m/217-6. He was joined by Brinton Paulson who finished right behind him at sixth with a mark of 65.74m/215-8.

Mark Bryant recorded a mark of 51.39m/168-7 to take fifth in the discus throw with teammate Poole taking 13th in the event. The pair also participated in the shot put with Bryant finishing fifth with a throw of 17.08m/56-0.5 and Poole finished sixth with a throw of 16.82m/55-2.25.
