NEW ORLEANS – Jane Hedengren was named Co-USTFCCCA Women’s Athlete of the Week following her record-breaking 5000-meter performance, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Just two weeks after setting the NCAA 10,000m record, Hedengren ran 14:50.50 to surpass Florida’s Parker Valby’s previous 5000m mark by over a second. She controlled the race from the outset and created separation over the final 2000m. The Provo, Utah product crossed the line more than eight seconds clear of the field. The performance earned her her fourth school record and third NCAA record, including the indoor season. Additionally, the true freshman’s time ranks as current World No. 2 outdoors.
