PROVO, Utah — The BYU women’s gymnastics team finished its 2026 season ranked No. 22 in the nation, posting its best Big 12 record since joining the conference.

The Cougars ended the year with an overall record of 11–9, including a 4–2 mark in Big 12 competition. BYU defeated four top-25 opponents, highlighted by a statement road victory over No. 14 Clemson to close the regular season. After a solid regular season, the Cougars earned a spot at the NCAA Tempe Regional, boasting a third-place finish and a score of 196.250.

Cougar Nation showed out for BYU gymnastics this season, averaging more than 3,000 fans per home meet. Across four home competitions at the Marriott Center, over 12,000 fans supported the 2026 gymnastics team.

Finishing among the top four Big 12 teams, the Cougars earned a spot in the evening session of the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship for the first time in program history. Facing No. 12 Utah, No. 23 Denver and Arizona, BYU placed third with a score of 196.175.

BYU had three podium finishers at the Big 12 Championship. True freshman Scarlett Sonnenberg tied for second on floor with a career-high 9.950. Deb Silva tied for third on vault with a 9.875, and Brynlee Andersen-Broekman tied for fourth on beam with a 9.900.

The 2026 season featured BYU’s highest team score since 2022, a 197.225 in a win over Clemson. The mark ties for the 10th-highest team score in program history. In the same meet, the Cougars recorded season-high totals on vault (49.250) and beam (49.550). The beam score ranks third all-time in program history.

BYU earned its season-high floor score of 49.550 against Denver on senior night, highlighted by four scores of 9.900 or higher. The Cougars also recorded a season-high bars score of 49.150 twice, both on the road at SUU and Iowa State.

Following the 2026 season, three Cougars earned All-Big 12 honors. Andersen-Broekman was named to the All-Big 12 Beam Team, Ava Jorgensen earned Bars Team honors, and Sonnenberg was named to the All-Freshman Team.

BYU earned five Big 12 weekly awards during the 2026 season, all awarded to senior Kylie Eaquinto and junior Andersen-Broekman. Eaquinto was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week twice (weeks 2 and 10), while Andersen-Broekman earned Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week honors three times (weeks 2, 7 and 10).

Four Cougars made their collegiate debuts this season: Hazel Smith, Daisy Stephenson, Zoe Hale and Sonnenberg. 

Hazel Smith competed on beam six times as a true freshman, earning a career-high 9.800. Daisy Stephenson competed on vault in all 13 meets, scoring a career-high 9.850. She also competed on floor in 11 meets, earning a career-high 9.925 at the Big 12 Championships. Zoe Hale competed on vault and floor for the first time at the Big 12 Championships, while Scarlett Sonnenberg contributed on two events throughout the season.

The Cougars honored two graduating gymnasts during a senior night celebration following the home meet against Denver. Kylie Eaquinto and Alilah Alvarado were recognized for their contributions to BYU gymnastics over the past several years.

As BYU’s lone senior on the 2026 squad and one of four captains, Eaquinto led her team on and off the competition floor. She was nominated by the coaching staff for the AAI Award, which recognizes outstanding senior gymnasts across the country.

Eaquinto competed on vault, bars and floor in every meet and in the all-around six times, posting a career-high 39.475 at Clemson. She also matched her career-high vault score of 9.900 and recorded career-high marks on bars (9.900) and beam (9.875) in her final season as a Cougar.

She led the Cougars on floor, tying freshman Sonnenberg for the team’s highest individual floor score of the season (9.950), which she earned on senior night. Eaquinto recorded a team-best 10 individual event titles, including three on vault, two on bars, four on floor and one in the all-around.

Brynlee Andersen-Broekman

BYU’s resident Beam Queen, Andersen-Broekman helped lead the Cougars as one of four captains in her junior season. She earned two Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week honors and was named to the All-Big 12 Beam Team for a second consecutive year.

She recorded BYU’s highest score of the season with a 9.975 on beam at Clemson, tying her career high on the apparatus. She is one of only seven athletes in program history to score a 9.975 on balance beam.

Competing on beam and floor in every meet this season, she recorded a career-high floor score of 9.900 on three occasions. The Orem, Utah native earned nine individual event titles, including eight on beam and one on floor.

Scarlett Sonnenberg

As BYU’s first five-star gymnast, Sonnenberg exceeded expectations during her freshman season. She competed on beam and floor in all 13 meets and on vault in all but one meet.

She recorded a career-high 9.875 on vault at NCAA Regionals and posted BYU’s second-highest beam score of the season with a 9.925 at Clemson. Her career-high 9.950 on floor tied with Eaquinto for BYU’s highest floor score of the season.

Sonnenberg earned two individual event titles on beam and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Ava Jorgensen

Ava Jorgensen 

Jorgensen served as one of BYU’s four team captains in her junior season. Competing on vault, bars and beam in every meet, she recorded career highs on bars (9.900) and beam (9.875). She also competed in the all-around for the first time in her career at the Best of Utah meet.

Jorgensen competed in the all-around in back-to-back meets, earning a career-high 39.050 against Boise State. She scored 9.850 or higher on bars six times, earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Bars Team. She finished the season with three individual event titles on bars.

Deb Silva

Deb Silva carried the momentum of a successful freshman season into her sophomore year at BYU. As one of BYU’s four team captains, she competed on vault, bars and floor in all 13 meets this season. She competed in the all-around for the first time in her career in the season opener against Oregon State.

After suffering a shoulder injury her freshman year that kept her out of the bars lineup, Silva competed on the apparatus in every meet this season. She recorded a season-high 9.875 on vault twice and earned career-high marks on bars (9.875) and floor (9.925).

Silva finished the season with five individual event titles, including two on vault, one on bars and two on floor.
