SALT LAKE CITY — BYU softball fell in game two at Utah, 9-0 in five innings at Dumke Stadium on Friday night.

The Cougars (17-30, 6-14 Big 12) gave out eight free passes on seven walks and a hit batter to go along with eight Ute hits in the run-rule defeat.

Player Highlights

Utah loaded the bases to start the bottom of the first, sandwiching a single with two walks before scoring two on another pair of walks to lead 2-0.

The Utes put two in scoring position with one out in the second, but lefty Jada Villegas, who came on in relief early in the first inning, helped BYU get a runner out at home on a fielder’s choice before a swinging strikeout to keep its deficit at two.

Utah tacked on another in the third after a four-pitch walk and double to right center to go in front 3-0 after three.

The Utes put up a six spot in the fourth to push the game into run-rule territory. Utah plated its six on five hits, one walk and a hit batter.

Bre Townsend led off the fifth with a deep single to left, but her pinch runner was doubled off before the Cougars grounded out to end the game.
